Map: Where are the Potholes? (Everywhere, We Know)

Embedded map designed to collect your reports on potholes in your area. Help us fill it.

It's been a rough winter. It's snowed, it's melted, it's been almost spring-like, it's snowed again, melted, and then frozen into a sheet of ice over our homes, cars, and backyard swing sets.

And, boy, has that done a number on our roads.

As most people know, potholes are caused when water that seeps through cracks in the asphalt gets underneath the paved surface and freezes, expanding and loosening the asphalt. The more it freezes, melts and freezes again, the more potholes will form. And that's exactly what's happened this year.

The job now is to tell your highway crews where the potholes are so they can start the large job of patching them up.

Online web tool See Click Fix allows locals to submit, and even plot on a map, local problems to an online portal that local highway departments and other services monitor closely.

It's a tool this reporter has seen work. On Wednesday, I submitted an issue on See Click Fix about the unplowed state of my neighborhood road. Within a half hour, a plow barreled down the street and I received an alert saying my issue was resolved.

We've embedded a map above designed to collect your reports on potholes in your area. To log your pothole issue, hit "Report an Issue" on the map above. Include and address and problem description, and hit "Submit." Follow the same steps to report multiple pothole locations.

Let's see how many we can log.

brookhavenconfucius, "entire town of Brookhaven" really? Have you checked the streets of crookhaven "elected leaders"? Not likely one pothole to be found. :-)

Hastings is one big pot hole. Luckily the "artistic" Hastings has more than enough hubris with which to fill themselves in. Remember, drive with delusion.

Looks like a great app. I just reported two spots in Huntington. THe only discouraging thing is, I looked up past items reported in my area (a few years ago), and they are all still "open" - either they were ignored, or the town has fixed them and not reported back to the site.

North Park Ave, Rickville Centre - all of it north of Sunrise Highway.

I know in Port Chester the easier question to answer is, "where AREN'T the pot holes?". Totally blew out a tire hitting a new one in the dark on Saturday night. It's only all gotten worse since the last two storms and all the plowing.

It'd be easier to mark where there aren't potholes!

Park Ave in Long Beach has many potholes especially around the manhole covers, Very dangerous sinkhole situation. There seems to be an epidemic of small rolling sinkholes as at Laurelton and Park on the South side intersection. Also on many of the other roads in town as well as asphalt missing type potholes. Thinking Sandy and the winter we have had. Patricia

see the west end of long beach and the canals. see the north park area. oddly enough, the dum dums that run this town aren't patting themselves on the back about the great job they are doing about this. maybe this is just one time when it can't be lied about
