Hot Dog Donna Gives Out Free Hot Dogs in Nyack (VIDEO)

Hot Dog Donna is part of the Nyack Boat Club

Tuesday morning, Nyack Mayor Jen Laird-White called up Donna Avdoyan, a Blauvelt resident who is better known as Hot Dog Donna because of her hot dog food truck.

Laird-White was hosting her first Hurricane Sandy Q&A session with residents that morning and asked Avdoyan to come to Nyack Village hall to sell hot dogs to residents because all of Nyack was still without power that day and possibly in need of hot food, even if it was just a hot dog.

“Originally, I was asked to come and sell the hot dogs … but decided to give them out for free instead,” she said. “I gave out (all) 150 hot dogs … It feels great to be down here and help people out. I belong to the Nyack Boat Club and we lost 23 boats. I know a lot of other people had a lot more severe things happen to them, so to come down and give out free hot dogs was just something I had to do.”

I guess better late than never. LaCorte is serving his 4th year as Mayor and was Trustee for I thinkRead More 4 years before that. This year is the only time he has brought the idea to the village about participating in this program. He is motivated by the opportunity of getting positive press for his County Executive campaign. The village should have been involved in this program ( as well as the Americorps program) long before this. On a positive note, hopefully the Village will continue this worthwhile partnership for many years to come.
