The Rockland County American Legion will hold its annual interfaith Four Chaplains Service at United Church of Spring Valley on Sunday, February 5, 2012, beginning at 10:00 A.M. The church is located at 11 East Church Street in Spring Valley. The service commemorates the sacrifice made by four United States Army Chaplains - a Roman Catholic priest, a rabbi, a Reformed Church in America minister and a Methodist minister - and the other 672 men who lost their lives during World War II when their transport ship, the Dorchester, was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat. The chaplains all gave up their own life jackets to save four soldiers.
