Coyote Sightings Reported

Numerous Valley Cottage residents reported seeing coyotes recently near the Mountainview Condos and Maple Road. After receiving reports of the sightings, Clarkstown Animal Control Office Patricia Coleman said they should serve as a reminder to pet owners to be cautious. Coleman said pet owners should think about their dogs and cats’ safety when taking their pets out at night or early in the morning.

Coleman urged people to take precautions and be alert even when they are in their own yards with their pets. Invisible fences do not prevent predatory animals from entering their property.

Coleman advised pet owners to keep their dogs on a six-foot leash so they cannot move a far distance away. Coleman said a six-foot leash gives the owner control to pull the dog close to them for protection in case they encounter a wild animal.
