Coming Soon to Patch: 'About Town'

Patch's newest interactive feature will keep readers clued in to the word on the street, cafe chatter, popular sentiments and more.

Patch is working diligently to keep its readers up to date on daily news, events and businesses.

But we can always have a closer ear to the ground—someone to report on what people are talking, laughing, worrying and whispering about.

So Tuesday, Patch will roll out a new column, "About Town."

The idea? Keep readers clued in to the small stuff that makes a difference. The column will be updated at least twice daily and focus on a breadth of issues: the new teacher at the high school, a local athlete's pre-game superstitions, a funny exchange between the mayor and a resident at last night's board meeting, celebrity sightings and more.

It will be a malleable and growing feature: our "About Town" columnist will post anecdotes, brief stories, quotes and photos.

And it's fully interactive, too: say "About Town" is writing about the inexplicable number of people walking their dogs in Flywheel Park one day—tell us about your experiences. Or submit a photo of your dog with the kids, or let everyone know how you're not so keen on canines, and much prefer guinea pigs.

But Patch can't do this without you. Have any ideas for the column? Know of a good hangout to pick up information? Want to contribute and help write the column? Let us know!
