Check Out Sprawling Gardens Right Here in Rockland

Stroll through Stony Point's lush gardens, and maybe even plant one of your own

Good news. You know how people say nature has a therapeutic effect? Well, it’s calling out to you.

"Whether you have a deep-rooted gardening question or just want to stop and smell the roses, join us on a tour of our Rockland County Demonstration Gardens," invites Donna De Sousa, a master gardener at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Stony Point.

De Sousa has been a master gardener since 2005. She notes tours are roughly one-and-a-half hours, and an ideal opportunity to escape outdoors on a whim. Tours begin at 1 p.m. on the last Sundays every month from April through October; there is no charge. The tour schedule for the rest of 2011 is May 29, June 26, July 31, August 28, September 25 and October 30.

"Some people take our tours brimming with gardening questions, others just love to be outdoors enjoying the visual feast of flowers, foliage and scents,"De Sousa added. "We have experienced that time spent outdoors noticing the beauty and diversity of plants is very calming. We hope to send people home with new inspiration for their gardens or, if gardening is not their interest, at least an appreciation of the 'botanical' world."
