All-Day Piermont Music Festival to Benefit PAL

Proceeds from the show—which features national acts–will aid Piermont's Police Athletic League.

When you think of Piermont's Police Athletic League (PAL), hard-nosed sports may first jump to mind—boxing, baseball and golf.

But the PAL—which promotes volunteer work and positive community-police relationships—is often involved with cultural events, too.

To note: this Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 6), marks the second annual American Roots Music Festival. Several national music acts will coalesce at Piermont's Goswick Pavillion/Rittenberg Field to play tunes, entertain residents and raise money for the popular PAL programs.

And if you're a picky listener, worry not: the show will feature rock, blues, folk and more.

Last year's American Roots concert—along with this year's—was orchestrated with the help of John McAvoy and his music room, Piermont's Turning Point Cafe. The previous event raised over $3,000, allowing the PAL to put on more programs for youngsters.

The event will run from noon until 6 p.m. and also feature food and drink (no alcohol); also, those who attend are encouraged to bring blankets and lawnchairs. Tickets are $15, and children under 11 are free. In order to create a safe and more enjoyable event, the pier will be closed to traffic for the day.
