UAW BUILDING AMERICA'S CARS & AMERICAN VETERANS' HOMES!

United Auto Workers Local 3039 doesn’t just put their money where their mouth is when it comes to helping our homeless Veterans; they put in their muscle! The UAW union members from the Chrysler plant in Tappan, NY, graciously donated $5,000 to Homes For Heroes in June.  At the time, they promised Homes For Heroes’ President, Legislator John Murphy, that they would also lend their muscle by sending over a group of union volunteers to help with the landscaping, and send them they did! After a long work week building our nation’s cars, they gave up their Sunday to dig and rake and prepare the landscaping of the property destined to house our brave Veterans. Puts new meaning to the word labor, also to the word community, as the United Auto Workers know what it means to give back.

Labor’s motto is, “An Injury to One is an Injury to All.”  With 1 in 5 homeless in America being Veterans, even one homeless Veteran is injurious to us all.  Homes for Heroes is grateful that the men and women of the United Auto Workers Local 3039 took their motto to heart when it came to our valiant heroes who sacrificed for our nation’s freedom and now need a second chance.

Homes for Heroes is a nonprofit organization focused on providing affordable housing for homeless and disabled veterans.  The apartments are under construction on Camp Shanks, in Tappan, N.Y., from which over 1.3 million GI’s left to fight in Europe during WWII.  To help support the men and women who bravely and honorably served our nation, monetary donations can be donated to Homes For Heroes, Inc., One Blue Hill Plaza, P.O. Box 1648, Pearl River, NY 10965.  Please call Sarah Wade at 845-735-0515, if you have any further questions.
