The popular a cappella group, The Maccabeats, who rocketed to fame in 2010 with their Chanukah spoof of Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” will be the main attraction at a family festival hosted by New City Jewish Center on Sunday, Feb. 9.

The event, which includes brunch, an indoor “street fair” and the concert, gets rolling at 11 a.m. The concert begins at 12:45 p.m. Tickets cost $18 per person and family pricing start at $50. For reserved concert seating, the cost is $36 for individuals with family pricing starting at $100. All prices go up on Feb. 1 by $5.
The festive street fair begins at 11 a.m. selling everything from Judaic art to children’s books and jewelry. A strolling guitarist, magician and pianist will contribute to the family fun, along with other events, games and activities throughout the morning.
The concert begins at 12:45 p.m., and features the Maccabeats, who originally formed in 2007 as Yeshiva University’s student vocal group. They have recently emerged as both Jewish music and a cappella phenomena, with a large fan base; more than 10 million views on YouTube; numerous television appearances, including the Today Show; and proven success with two albums, 2010′s “Voices From the Heights” and 2012′s “Out of the Box.” They have even appeared at the White House, entertaining for Jewish American Heritage Month.
The event is one that should have broad appeal, according to Jay Schaffer, event chairman. “The Maccabeats are an exciting, fun group, with a lot of talent and spirit,” said Schaffer. “This is an event that should be a draw for families from across the county. There’s a little something for everyone and we want everyone to feel welcome.”
