Rockland Independent Living Center Offers Free Training to Better Respond to People with Disabilities in Emergencies on Nov. 13th

New City-based nonprofit Rockland Independent Living Center and New York State Assemblyman Kenneth P. Zebrowski are sponsoring a free “Town Hall Training” to improve local emergency preparation for and by people with disabilities on Wednesday, Nov, 13, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Fire Training Center, 35 Fireman’s Memorial Drive in Pomona.

The training is designed to help individuals and their families as well as agencies and organizations that work with people with disabilities, while making it easier for municipalities to be in compliance with ADA requirements on emergency preparedness. The innovative training program is ideal for self-advocates, family members/care givers of people with disabilities, disability advocates and people interested in developing the whole community.  Pre-registration is required and lunch is provided. Please call Rockland Independent Living Center to register at 845-624-1366 ext. 129.

Niagara University and First Responders Disability Awareness Training (FR-DAT) are leading the Town Hall Training session. This customized curriculum is designed to train and educate individuals to work with their town or village representatives to respond to the needs of people with disabilities and ensure awareness, acceptance and accessibility. Conversely, it educates municipal employees on how to properly respond and work with the disability community.
