Rockland Independent Living Center Honors Doug Katz, The Lions Club & TD Bank at 26th Annual Awards Dinner

New City-based nonprofit Rockland Independent Living Center (RILC), the cross disability, consumer directed service agency that removes barriers for persons with disabilities in Rockland, honored businessman Doug Katz of New City, The Lions Club and TD Bank at its 26th Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5 at The Nyack Seaport.

RILC CEO and Executive Director George Hoehmann presented the “Senator Thomas Morahan Independent Living Award” to Doug Katz, principal of Jacob J. Katz Insurance, for his long-time support of RILC and other nonprofit agencies in Rockland.  Nanuet resident Barbara Chuck, District Governor of The Lions Club District 20-R-1 accepted the “Spirit of Independence Award” from RILC’s Donna Ehrenberg. Ms. Chuck, who is legally blind, and The Lions Club have been strong supporters of RILC – spearheading food drives in support of RILC’s year-round food pantry and volunteering for many RILC programs. David Aron, a partner at Rifkin & Company, and Treasurer, Board of Directors of Rockland Independent Living Center, presented the “Community Partner Award” to TD Bank for its tenants of corporate giving and community involvement. North Rockland resident Ralph Travaglini, Regional Vice President, TD Bank, accepted the award.

RILC is one of 37 Independent Living Centers in New York State and the only one located in Rockland County. As a cross disability agency, RILC works across systems and with persons of every disability to assist them in controlling and directing their own life.  Disabilities range from developmental and learning disabilities, physical disabilities and disabilities brought on by disease or aging, such as loss of sight and hearing.
