Jawonio Employer To Receive Statewide Recognition

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and David Ribbens of the Doubletree by Hilton in Tarrytown views hiring people with disabilities as meeting the needs of his business and customers.  "My view is this is something that is not only good for the community, but good for the world. Hiring workers from Jawonio has been a win win for us."

Ribbens is the Food and Beverage Services Manager for the Doubletree Inn by Hilton of Tarrytown and he will be accepting the award as Employer of the Year 2013 on Monday, October 21st, at the Cerebral Palsy Associations of NYS Annual Conference in Saratoga NY.  In the award letter from President/CEO Susan Constantino, CP of NYS stated, "DoubleTree by Hilton has been chosen to receive this award for your dedication to supporting and providing opportunities for people with developmental disabilities."

The purpose of the award is to recognize a business which has made a commitment to provide employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities and has made the accomodations necessary for access to jobs.

Jill Warner, CEO, Jawonio said, "We congratulate DoubleTree Inn on this wonderful recognition and it truly highlights the work of our dedicated Community Employment staff who work tirelessly to support, train and work with progressive employers to share the benefits of partnering with Jawonio to provide jobs and help build lives of independence."

The DoubleTree has hired 9 workers including individuals who are deaf and hearing impaired.  

Four other Jawonio employees will be recognized at the "Staff Night" dinner at the conference as well. They are: Geraldine Jackson, House Manager, Marasa Home; Gail Nachimson, Program Director, Education Services; Stacey Kantrowitz, Program Director, Community Employment Servicesl  Hemant Mhatre, Mailroom Clerk.

Jawonio Community Employment Services is the largest service provider of job placement for people with disabilities in the region. Jawonio also hires people with disabilities for their own businesses including: The Jawonio Cleaning Company; Document Imaging Services and the latest business, Clean by Steam, car cleaning service.

Since the CES program began, Jawonio has placed more than 4000 individuals in jobs throughout the Hudson Valley region.
