Perry will discuss his brilliant book based on the life of the foremost skilled writer, educator, orator, critic and political activist of his era, Hubert Harrison. The American Historical Review, October 2009 calls Perry’s book a “brilliant masterpiece” [that] “illuminates not only the life of his subject but discloses much about black Manhattan before Harlem Renaissance.” Hubert Harrison was one of the truly most influential yet little known figures of early twentieth-century America and deserves to be acknowledged for his greatness.
The Friends of the Library at St. Thomas Aquinas College organizes and sponsors lectures in the library by notable speakers from within and outside the College. All lectures are open to the community.
