Nyack will be the backdrop for a primetime series premier tonight.
Smash, the new NBC show that centers on a Broadway performance and features actresses Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston, premiers at 10 p.m. Tuesday evening—and portions of the hour-long musical episode were shot in the village.
Camera crews rolled into Nyack in late December 2011, setting up shop at the BOCES building and on Main Street, just outside Olive's. Shooting the show took several hours, brought a number of big names to town and netted the village $6,025 in filming fees.
Twp locales will appear over the course of the season—the inside of the BOCES building and Olive's, where Messing sips a cup of coffee while gazing out at Main Street.
Olive's owner, Marianne Olive, will make a cameo in later episodes. The Nyack merchant opened her doors to the film crews, and was later asked—along with bartender Billy Schmidt—to act as extras.
"They asked if I wanted to be in the scene just behind the bar serving drinks," Olive explained.

Some of the indoor scenes were shot at BOCES, I believe-- but downtown Nyack will be featured more prominently in later episodes.
