Pimp Who Arranged Lawrence Taylor's Tryst With 16-Year-Old Gets 7 Years In Prison

Convicted killer from the Bronx pleaded guilty to sex trafficking.

A convicted killer from the Bronx was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday for his role in the sex trafficking of a 16-year-old girl he brought to a Rockland County hotel to have sex with former New York Giants football star Lawrence Taylor.

Rasheed Davis, 38, pleaded guilty in March to enticing or facilitating interstate travel to engage in a commercial sex act. In addition to the prison term, U.S. Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald in federal court in Manhattan ordered Davis to serve five years probation after he is released and to forfeit $300 and a 1999 Mercedes E-320.

As a result of the May 6, 2010, incident involving Davis and the 16-year-old, Taylor, 52, in March was sentenced in Rockland County Court in New City to six years probation. Taylor pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors: sexual misconduct and third-degree patronizing a prostitute. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara said Davis was responsible for making the 16-year-old a prostitute and strip-club dancer.

"Sex trafficking is often associated with foreign countries, but the case of Rasheed Davis reminds us that it happens all too often in the United States as well,” Bharara said. “It is even more disturbing when it involves a teenager. Today's sentencing of this violent, recidivist offender, should send a clear message that we will aggressively pursue and punish those who exploit the young and vulnerable to line their own pockets."

Bharara said the investigation and Davis’ confession in court revealed how the 16-yead-old was placed into the sex trade as a way of making money to pay for her housing.

The trail that led to the incident with Taylor at the former Holiday Inn Holidome in Montebello started in April 2010, when Davis offered the 16-year-old a place to live in the Bronx for about $150 a week and told the girl he had a way to earn money to pay her rent.

Bharara said Davis arranged for the girl to dance in stip clubs and to engage in prostitution — with Davis setting the prices for the girl’s prostitution services. This led to arrangements made on March 5, 2010, for the girl to meet with a prostitution client and have sex for $300.

Bharara said the girl refused the arrangement and Davis then sent her threatening and intimidating text messages. When the Davis later physically assaulted the teenager to force her to have sex with the client.

Bharara said Davis told the girl to tell the client, Taylor, that she was 19 years old and then Davis drove the teenager to the Holidome.

As the girl was in the hotel with Taylor, Davis waited outside in his car. The teenager, Bharara said, was paid $300 and turned the cash over to Davis, who then drove the girl back to the Bronx.

The incident with Taylor came to light because the teenage girl had sent sent text messages and made phone calls to a relative in an effort to get help.

Davis was arrested in his car by the New York City police as he was returning to his home in the Bronx with the teenager. When he was arrested, Davis had in his possession the name and address of the hotel where he had arranged for Taylor and the girl to meet, and a hotel room number.

At the time, Davis had been out of prison two years. He had been convicted of manslaughter for firing a gun into a crowd and killing an innocent bystander, Bharara said.

Bharara praised the work of the FBI and the NYPD in the investigation and also offered his thanks to the Ramapo police and Rockland County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance.

Mind you, drug dealers get 15 years for selling a wanted product. . . . The judge was wrong to allow this guy to plead just because her docket is clogged with drug dealing cases. I can be wrong, but this girl (and girls like her) will have psychological problems for years after being forced to prostitute. And the judge thinks 7 years and a 12 year old car recompenses for the harm to the society; I am saddened that a female judge thinks so low of the sex-trafficking laws (as compared to the drug laws). From what I can tell, the facts are clear: Rashid pimped the girl; the girl was underage at the time and was forced in any event. The pimping case should have gone to trial. I must confess LT's case has bad facts for the prosecution; and I think that it is harder to find a jury to convict LT if he was told the girl was of age.

"facilitating interstate travel to engage in a commercial sex act"

Eliot Spitzer got away with it.
