Meetings Thursday: Tax Cap, Nyack Traffic
Lawmakers, school officials set to address local issues
Nyackers Thursday can learn about their 2012 property taxes, or head to the village's latest lawmaking session.
Residents interested in learning more about New York State's two-percent tax cap, and how it will affect property taxes and the Nyack School District, can stop by the Nyack Center from 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The Nyack Youth Collaborative is sponsoring "Facts vs Myths: The Impact of the New Tax Cap on Your Taxes and Schools." The night will focus on the future of school funding and the cap's impact. Slated to speak are Nyack Schools superintendent James Montesano and Anne Byrne, a 29-year member of the Nanuet School Board.
Earlier this week, Montesano said school officials are planning to adhere to the tax cap, not circumvent it.
Just blocks away, at Nyack Village Hall, local lawmakers are set to discuss Memorial Park construction, the latest at 23 Main Street and more.
The board meeting will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a workshop aimed at ameliorating traffic complaints concerning North Midland Avenue.
Patch will have reporters at both events; stay tuned for updates.
