Lagana Will Not Seek School Board Re-Election

Long-time school official to depart

Michael Lagana—who has served several terms on the Nyack School Board—will not be seeking re-election in May, he said.

"It is with a heavy heart that I tell you...I will not be putting my name forward," he said. "It's not an easy decision by any stretch."

Lagana noted new blood on the board could be helpful.

"I came to this board almost six years ago, and I had a lot of goals and ambitions in mind," he said last week, before superintendent James Montesano introduced the . "I've seen a lot of change, and it's been really exciting."

Lagana operated alongside three superintendents during his time of the board—, and —and called the current leadership "second-to-none."

Other board members were quick to thank Lagana, praising his dedication.

"I have had the opportunity to work with you over the past four year, and I've learned a lot from you," said Claudette Jimerson. "What you've done for us will not be forgotten."
