Carlucci Supporters come out in Rain and Cold

David Carlucci targets Vanderhoef record.

The temperature was slowly reaching 50 degrees and a slight drizzle fell from the cloudy skies, however, that didn't stop supporters coming out Monday morning to back up David Carlucci with handmade signs.

Running for the state Senate seat that was held by the late Sen. Thomas Morahan, R-New City, New City Democrat Carlucci gave a speech in front of the Department of Tourism in New City. He outlined 10 reasons why his opponent, Republican County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef not bring significant change to a "dysfunctional Albany" state government.

  1. Play to Pay: Vanderhoef has received money "from 32 separate county employees" and these same "employees received over an average of $16,000 in pay raise over the past two years."
  2. Backdoor Pay Raises: Vanderhoef lobbied for and "received over $17,000 pay raises" weeks after being reelected County Executive and after the budget had been approved.
  3. One Shot Budget Fixes: Vanderhoef Cell phone tax, "asking our volunteer fire fighters ... to pay a fee to get fitted for their own life-saving oxygen masks."
  4. Part-Time Public Servant: "I pledge to be a full-time state Senator ... Vanderhoef has not pledged to be a full-time state Senator. When asked he said he plans to pursue teaching and possibly other interests."
  5. Fiscal Irresponsibility: "over the past three years, our Rockland County property taxes have increased over 30 percent. Since the time in office, Mr. Vanderhoef has increased Rockland county employee salaries by almost 100 percent.
  6. Silent on Paladino: "Paladino has admitted ... that he sent anti-semitic, racist and sexist emails to friends, employees, coworkers and employees... I'm calling Mr. Vanderhoef to join me in disavowing this candidate.
  7. Friends before Voters: "Without publicly posting or interviewing qualified candidates, Mr. Vanderhoef appointed a new director of Tourism to a position that is supposed to bring dollars to our community."
  8. Reform is just Lip Service: On redistricting: "10 years ago, Mr. Vanderhoef was silent on the issue and never proposed a plan ... Vanderhoef has still not submitted a plan for anybody to see ..."
  9. Empty promises: "Vanderhoef now pledges to push forth a property tax cap. He's been the county executive for 17 years and never once … talked about instituting a property tax cap here in Rockland County.

  10. Runs Away from Responsibility: "In the time that Mr. Vanderhoef has been County Executive, he's pursued no less than seven different positions."

Bill Madden from the Vanderhoef campaign was not at the conference, but had a few words to say on Vanderhoef's behalf:

"The Vanderhoef campaign is focused on developing ways to reform state government and control Albany's reckless spending and taxation. Scott Vanderhoef has the experience to foster change in Albany. David Carlucci's assertions this morning demonstrate the kind of negative campaigning that the Clarkstown Clerk has been making throughout the campaign. His actions earlier today do not provide solutions to the many issues that face the families of Rockland and Orange counties."

One of the supporters at the conference was Heather James who volunteers for Carlucci's campaign and first met Carlucci at the Young Democrats Club.

"David is a fellow young democrat. I was really impressed that he's running and agree with his ideas such as the Albany reform and redistricting," she said.

Another volunteer, Romance Reed, also came out to hear Carlucci speak.

"David Carlucci, he's very inspiring. I believe in everything he's about," Reed said. "He's bringing a young fresh face to Albany." Supporters Matt Reilly and Kathy Lathrop also agree with Reed.

"David is up and coming. He's got a lot of energy, a lot of new ideas," Reilly said. "I'm looking forward to seeing David in the Senate."

This is why all of us in Rockland County need David Carlucci in the State Senate. Scott Vanderoef is a career politician who represents the status quo in Albany. David Carlucci is a young reform minded candidate with a fresh perspective and new ideas. In order to move in a new direction, in the right direction, we need David as our next State Senator

I think David Carlucci is a fine young man and a very good Town Clerk.

Taxes and unfunded mandates have driven 1.6 million people and tens of thousands of jobs from the state. What have the Democrats in Albany done to fix it. Nothing.

Vanderhoef does not control the budget. The Democrats in the county legislature ultimately do. So David should call out those folks, not Scott Vanderhoef.

David is silent on the Democrats running up huge deficits nationally and in this state. David supports Obama and his disasterous Obama Care as well as other "progressive" Democrat ideas.

Progressively higher taxes, regulation, as well as unemployment are chasing more people from the state yet David offers no concrete proposals. Ad Hominem attacks on Vanderhoef don't cut it.

David you are a very good Town Clerk! Stick with it!

What David is doing is not Ad Hominem attacks nor is it a smear campaign. He is highlighting Scott Vanderhoefs awful record as County Executive. If it looks negative its because Vanderhoef's tenure has been negative for everyone on Rockland. Vanderhoef has the power to veto the County Legislature if he does not agree which makes him just as responsible. David may be silent on national issues because hes too busy focusing on the issues that he will directly have a say on and that directly affect people in Rockland and Orange. The Democrats have barely been in power 2 years it takes time to undo all the mistakes of 40 years of Republican control. The Democrats expelled Hiram Monserrate. Democratic primary voters voted out Pedro Espada. Electing people like David Carlucci on top of that will allow New York to move in a new direction, the right direction.
