Many came costumed to watch the 24th Nyack Halloween Parade

Main St. and South Broadway Ave. were overrun with ghosts, Batmen and, oddly enough, Michael Jacksons early Friday evening as it was time for the 24th annual Nyack Halloween Parade.

Thousands came out to watch the parade, which featured floats, fire departments, stilt-walkers, jugglers, dancers and performances by the Nanuet High School and East Ramapo High School marching bands, with many musicians in each band dressing up for the occasion.

Many in the crowd dressed up as well, and possibly the most popular costume this year was Batman, with many wearing all different kinds of Batman costumes. And no group was more Batman-centric than the Bells, of Grandview.

“We’re the Bat Family,” Jonathan Bell said, introducing his wife, their daughter and two dogs.

Bell, his wife Anita, their daughter Belinda and two dogs, Pepper and Dazzle, all wore Batman-related costumes, smiling and waving to the crowd as they marched in the parade.

Another popular costume was Michael Jackson, with a few young kids focusing on his curly-haired, single-glove wearing days and older parade-goers focusing on his surgical mask-wearing later years.
